Poor Cat

I saw a cat get hit by a car on my way home tonight. There is nothing the car could have done as the cat darted right in front of it. It was a startling site and I put on my flashers and got out hoping I could do something. It's body was twitching and I hoped it was going to be okay. When I approached I saw a gruesome situation and knew it was too late. Slowly the last bit of life was gone from an animal who was probably playing with its owners an hour earlier. I wish I could have done something. At first I felt indifferent, then I felt sad. In one second a life
was extinguished. It made me think about human mortality. We're all hanging by a thread. Life is precious.

This was a major downer for an otherwise decent evening.

Goodnight

Did I ever tell you about the time I hit a cat near Jefferson City, MO? I'm sure I did...twice...

Make that 3 times.

On, no, poor kitty!

Given the plenitude of street cats here I've sadly seen my fair share of run-over ones. I've seen them in all their states: from fresh corpses with guts spilling out to ones which have been re-run-over so many times they were reduced to a flat outline glued to the asphalt.

The biggest roadkill I ever saw was a g-i-n-o-r-m-o-u-s wild boar in the Golan Heights. It looked about the size of a small lion. In Brazil I saw a run-over armadillo, and when I was in England I was sad over the amount of run-over foxes I saw. On a drive from London to Brighton I counted four.

A few years ago in the States, on the way to a friend's house, a deer suddenly ran out from the corn fields into the road just in front of us. Luckily for him and for us, he quickly disappeared into the corn fields on the other side of the road. When we got to my friend's house, though, we accidently squashed a frog.

It's not easy for an animal in a man's world.

That is pretty upsetting, I bet. I saw a bird fly up from a low median and directly into the side of a car, while driving down a highway. I could hear the impact over my own stereo, it was so hard. I was shaken up for awhile.

Is it wrong if I use this post as a chance to say hello to Ophir? Where have you been, man! You need to e-mail me or something soon. Miss you!

Also, poor cat.
